MORE THAN A WEDDING
Updated: Feb 12, 2019
As a little girl, my goals in life were simple. I would go to college, get married, and start a family. These were more than goals to me, these were my dreams. Dreams that I claimed would become my reality.
These goals represent so much more than just getting married. Growing up, I didn’t learn the healthiest ways to love. It was through life experiences that I knew I deserved the very best in my life and my relationships. Because of my experiences, I’ve always wanted to teach self love and how to build functional relationships.
No one in my immediate family ever had a wedding, and I was determined to break that cycle. I was also determined to break the cycle of dysfunctional relationships that I've been exposed to. My goal has always been to introduce new traditions. Traditions where we as women value our self worth, and know that we are worthy of healthy functional relationships. Where we know that we are worth more than a court house wedding, and that we deserve to walk down the aisle in celebration of love. A tradition where we as women recognize our self worth, and know that we deserve every desire of our heart.
I know that everyone is different and some people don’t feel that it’s necessary to have a wedding ceremony, so this blog post isn’t for you. I am referring to the women who desperately want to wear their wedding dress but feel that a wedding is too impossible a task to conquer. I am referring to our daughters, and nieces who are watching and looking up to us to see how they should value themselves in relationships.
So to all, know that it starts with you. What you think, and how you feel about life, will be your reality. Even though you may have grown up in an unhealthy environment, know that you are not your past, and you deserve the best life. Breaking boundaries and starting new traditions for your life may be hard, but with dedication and positive thinking, you can do anything you put your mind to! My inner child was in full swing the day of our wedding because her dreams were finally reality. I never lost sight of my goals, and I hope that through sharing our wedding experience, you or someone you know is inspired to never lose sight of their goals as well.
